Alexander Usik officially became the best boxer in the world

Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usik, who won the crown of absolute world heavyweight boxing champion in a confrontation with Britain’s Tyson Fury, has topped the ranking of the best boxers regardless of weight category according to the authoritative publication The Ring.

By moving up to number one, Usik, who previously held the third position in the ranking, has surpassed Japan’s Naoya Inoue and American Ternes Crawford, who, like him, have become absolute world boxing champions in two weight categories.

Russian welterweights Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol retained their fifth and sixth spots in the pound-for-pound rankings, respectively.

The heavyweight unification bout, which took place last weekend in the Saudi capital Riyadh, went the full distance and ended with the Ukrainian defeating the Briton by split decision to unify the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, The Ring titles and lineal championship belt.

“The Gypsy King”, who almost suffered an early defeat in the ninth round, has already announced that he will exercise his right to an immediate rematch, which is tentatively scheduled for October this year.

Recall that in 2012, Alexander Usik won Olympic gold in London, and in 2018 became the absolute world champion in boxing in the first heavyweight.
