Former UFC featherweight champion, Aleksander Volkanovski, believes in the success of his former sparring partner Petr Yan, who will return to the octagon this weekend after a one-year hiatus to face dangerous Chinese prospect Song Yadong.
“It’s an interesting fight,” said the Australian in another video posted on his Youtube channel. “Peter Yan is a buddy of mine and I know what he’s capable of. I think stylistically, it’s not a bad fight for him, although Song Yadong is really good and is a big threat to a lot of people in this division. But stylistically, it’s not a bad fight for Petr. His counter-attacking boxing should work well against a powerful guy like Yadong”
“I think it’s a great fight for Petr, as not many people want to fight Song Yadong, and a win over him will give him back the position he lost after a few losses. He’ll be back in the top echelon of guys who aren’t far away from a title fight, and since he’s a former champion, he’ll be in the title race too”
As a reminder, the flyweight bout between Peter Yan and Song Yadong will be part of UFC 299, which takes place on March 9 in Miami.
