Alex Volkanovski made a statement after the defeat

Former UFC featherweight titleholder Aleksander Volkanovski, who lost his belt against Elijah Topuria, is not thinking about ending his career and expects an immediate rematch with the division’s new champion.

“Obviously when your opponent has that kind of power in his hands you have to be careful, but what can you do – I give him credit,” the Australian said in a post-fight interview. “I started to turn on, to gain momentum and he caught me. He’s got a hard punch, we knew that. He wasn’t supposed to hit, but he did. Good job.”

“As everyone knows, I’ve been the champion of the welterweight division for a very long time. He keeps talking about Spain – maybe we could have a rematch in Spain”

The featherweight title fight, which was the main event of UFC 298 in Anaheim, ended in the second round with a knockout victory for the Spanish-Georgian fighter.

Volkanovski suffered his third loss in his last four fights and second consecutive knockout defeat, while the undefeated Topuria recorded his fifteenth professional victory, seven of which came in the UFC.
