Alex Volkanovski: “I will knock out Makhachev beautifully and as early as possible”

Alexander Volkanovski’s plan for his upcoming fight with Islam Makhachev is to knock out the reigning UFC lightweight champion without taking things to the late rounds.

“It’s going to be exciting – obviously I want to go out there and shock him,” MMA Fighting quoted the Australian as saying. “We’re going to try to make sure the fight doesn’t go five rounds. I want to finish him as early as possible. I don’t want to check his gas tank. Don’t get me wrong – I can do that, but I want to do without that check. I’m going to finish him nice and early.”

“Considering how motivated I am and how fresh I am – physically and mentally – I’m going to be the most dangerous man that night. I plan to knock him out.”

Recall that Alex Volkanovski, who holds the UFC featherweight title, agreed a few days ago to replace Charles Oliveira, who received a dissection, and to face the Russian on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.

In February of this year at UFC 284 in Perth, the Australian made his first attempt to take the championship belt from Makhachev, losing to the Russian fighter by unanimous decision over five rounds.
