Alex Volkanovski: “I will finish Makhachev by getting up from the couch”

Reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, who agreed to replace the injured Charles Oliveira on short notice, is confident he can earn an early victory over Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 21 and take the lightweight title away from the Russian.

“Obviously, it’s a pretty crazy thing to do,” the Australian said in another video posted on his Youtube channel. “There’s not many fighters in the world that would do that, especially in my position, but I’ve always said I’m the guy that would fight anytime, anywhere, at any weight. This was an opportunity to prove my words again. If anybody can do that on twelve days notice, rising right off the couch, it’s me.”

“In eleven days I’m going to go out there and shock the world. Luckily, I’ve been practicing all the time. Have I had a vacation? Yes, I had time to rest and knock back a drink or two. I think that makes me feel much fresher. I don’t feel exhausted. People think I’m crazy, but I can shock the world. I can’t wait to go out there and finish this guy off. I don’t feel any pressure – all the pressure is just on him. I get up off the couch and he better do something about it.”

Recall that in February of this year, Alex Volkanovski made his first attempt to take the championship belt from Islam Makhachev, losing to the Russian lightweight by unanimous decision at UFC 284 in Perth.
