Reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will likely make another title defense at UFC 297 next January.
The Australian announced the timeline for his return to the octagon on social media.
“January sounds great to me!” wrote Wolkanowski.
The main candidate to fight Alex Volkanovski at the moment is Spanish-Georgian fighter Ilia Topuria, ranked fifth in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.
In June of this year, the undefeated Ilia Topuria earned his sixth victory under the UFC banner with a unanimous decision win over Josh Emmett, while Alex Volkanovski successfully unified the current and interim featherweight titles in July with a third-round TKO over Yair Rodriguez.
Note that the January numbered event is not yet on the official calendar of the world’s strongest league, which will close out the current year on Dec. 16 with UFC 296 in Las Vegas.
