Reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, who is set to make his title defense against Elijah Topuria this weekend, expects to finish the challenger early in the second round at the latest.
“I predict I’ll teach him a good lesson,” MMAFighting quoted the Australian as saying. “He’ll be embarrassed, he’ll eat his words, and maybe this will be the start of his journey.”
“He’s young, he’s confident, I’ll make him humble – he’ll come around and start again after I give him a good beating. I guess I’ll crush him in the first round and finish him in the second.”
A week earlier, the Spanish-Georgian welterweight said that he plans to repeat the success of Islam Makhachev and knock out the champion in the first round. It should be noted that Topuria has already declared himself the new UFC champion in social networks, having previously recorded a victory over the Australian in his record.
The featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Elijah Topuria will be the main event of UFC 298, which will take place on February 17 in Anaheim.
