Reigning UFC featherweight champion and UFC lightweight title contender Alexander Volkanovski believes Islam Makhachev is bluffing when he says he’s going to knock him out in the standing position.
“He’s a very calculating fighter,” Australian MMAJunkie is quoted as saying. “He doesn’t take unnecessary risks, and if he goes for a knockout, it’s an unnecessary risk. He won’t do it – it was a bluff.”
“He definitely won’t take risks – he’s the best at that. He will probably sit on the back leg and look for an opportunity to transfer. He’s good at distance and feels things like that very well. As I said, he is a very calculating fighter.”
The day before, the Russian confirmed that he plans to knock out his opponent.
“My goal is to knock him out because I have everything for that. Before the Oliveira fight, I said that I want to choke him because he has the most submission wins in the UFC, and now I have the same goal – I want to knock out Volkanovski.
Recall that the title superfight, in which the Russian put the UFC lightweight championship belt on the line, will head the UFC 284 tournament in Perth on February 11.
