A featherweight unification bout between reigning UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski and interim title holder Yair Rodriguez will headline UFC 290 on July 8 in Las Vegas.
The title fight has officially received the status of the main event of the numbered event, as announced by UFC President Dana White.
In February this year at UFC 284 in Perth, Alex Volkanovski made an unsuccessful attempt to take away the UFC lightweight title from Islam Makhachev, losing to the Russian by unanimous decision, and Yair Rodriguez in the second most important event of the tournament finished with a triangle choke of American Josh Emmett and won the interim championship belt UFC featherweight division.
The UFC 290 tournament will be the final event of the annual International Fight Week, which the world’s strongest league traditionally held in early July in Las Vegas.
