Alex Pereira Won't Get Immediate Light Heavyweight Title Chance

Despite Jamal Hill’s clear interest in fighting Alex Pereira, the former UFC middleweight champion will have to defeat at least one top light heavyweight before getting a title shot in the new division.

“He has to win before he can be one of the contenders,” UFC President Dana White, LowKick MMA, was quoted as saying. “He needs to move up to light heavyweight and beat a serious opponent. This is exactly what we are doing now – we are trying to organize a fight with a real top for him. ”

On April 8 at UFC 287 in Miami, Alex Pereira lost the UFC middleweight championship belt, losing in an immediate second round knockout to Israel Adesanya, after which he officially announced that he would continue his professional career in the light heavyweight category.

As for the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, Jamal Hill, he should face former title holder Jiri Prochazka, who vacated the championship belt at the end of last year due to injury, in his next fight.
