Alex Pereira responded to a challenge from Magomed Ankalaev

Reigning UFC bantamweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently said he would like to see Magomed Ankalaev as his next opponent, has changed his mind and is more interested in a fight with the Russian, who the previous day scored an early victory in a potential challenger fight with Johnnie Walker and challenged him.

According to the Brazilian, he first wants closure with former division champion, Jamal Hill, who was forced to vacate the title last year due to injury.

“Let’s focus on what’s really important, the fight with Jamal, and then I’ll turn my attention to breaking another record of two title defenses in the shortest time possible,” Pereira said on social media.

The fight between Magomed Ankalaev and Johnnie Walker, which headlined UFC Fight Night 234 in Las Vegas last weekend, ended in the second round with a knockout victory for the Russian.

At the post-event press conference, Ankalaev said he was ready to fight Pereira on April 13 at the UFC 300 anniversary event in Las Vegas, and promised the Brazilian would not use his wrestling skills and would fight exclusively in the standup.
