Reigning UFC bantamweight titleholder, Alex Pereira, has reacted to former division champion, Jamal Hill, who promised to knock him out in the standup.
“I think I’ve proven myself enough in the bantamweight division, winning the title in a fight against Jiri Prochazka and also in a fight against Jan Blachowicz,” MMAnews quoted the Brazilian as saying. “If I was comparing these three fighters, Jamal, Jiri and Jan, and I was asked to choose the one I would like to fight, I would choose Jamal because he is a good opponent for me”
“I think looking at my history in kickboxing, it was pretty cocky of him to say that he would fight me in the stand-up and knock me out. A lot of people have tried that and I’m sure he’ll try to fight me in the stand-up, but when he sees it’s not working, he’ll try to move me. Jamal is a comfortable opponent for me and I think he overestimated his strength by making that statement”
Jamal Hill vacated the UFC bantamweight championship belt this July with an Achilles injury, and Alex Pereira won the vacant title two weeks ago, finishing Jiri Prohazka by second-round technical knockout at UFC 295 in New York City.
