Alex Pereira: “Blachowicz is a more difficult opponent than Prochazka”

Alex Pereira, who will face former UFC bantamweight champion Jiri Prochazka in his next fight, believes the Czech is a less difficult opponent for him than Jan Blachowicz, who he defeated in his previous matchup.

“I always analyze some things when I help someone in preparation,” MMAnews quoted the Brazilian as saying. “That was the case when preparing Glover for the Prochazka fight, so I’ve already studied him. But now it’s not going to be like the Glover fight – I saw some things that time, and I’ll have a different strategy.”

“Yes, it’s going to be a tough fight, but I think – some people will probably disagree with this – that the Jan fight was tougher. Blachowicz has the grappling and that made my task more difficult because my striking technique was less effective. It’s going to be different with Jiri. I think he’s going to come out and he’s going to fight in the standup. He’s not the kind of guy that comes out and starts fighting, and he has a more open style of fighting than Jan. I think it’s going to be a dangerous fight, but for me this matchup is better than the fight with Yan

Pereira also made it clear that a date will soon be announced for his fight with Prochazka, in which they will play for the vacant UFC bantamweight championship belt.

“Stay tuned – news coming soon!” the former UFC middleweight champion wrote on social media.

It’s possible that a welterweight title fight will be added to the card of UFC 294, which takes place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.
