If fights lasted one five-minute round each, Hamzat Chimaev would be the strongest fighter in the world regardless of weight class, believes UFC commentator and former UFC bantamweight title challenger Anthony Smith.
“I have a lot of faith in Hamzat Chimaev, I think the guy is unbelievable and he can beat anybody in any UFC weight class in the first round – it doesn’t matter who it is,” MMAnews quoted the American as saying. “Anybody in the world he can beat in the first round. Second, third, fourth, fifth rounds – Gilbert Burns is a perfect example. If this fight had lasted two more rounds…”
“An even better example is the Kamaru Usman fight. You’ve never seen people do to Kamaru what Hamzat did. Usman built his career by being a great fighter and he was tossed around like a rag doll in that fight, but he had the toughness, resilience, stamina, and all his experience that allowed him to take the fight to the second round where he closed the gap and in the third round he won the fight”
As a reminder, Hamzat Chimaev will return to the octagon on June 22 at UFC on ABC 6 in Riyadh, and if he defeats Australian Robert Whittaker, he will become the next challenger for the UFC middleweight championship belt.
