Jon Jones’ reaction to the Aspinall and Blades fight

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones commented on the news that the interim title fight between Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blades will be the second main event of UFC 304, which takes place July 27 in Manchester.

“Curtis vs. Tom is the number one official challenger fight,” Jones wrote. “The trolls are telling me I’m slowing down the division because of my injury. Meanwhile, the next two heavyweights aren’t even the main event? Interesting. I’m on track and have until November to remind the world. Again.”

The American fighter also admitted that he will be rooting for his compatriot in this confrontation.

“I won’t be surprised if Curtis wins. If Sergey was able to get Tom so easily, I’m sure Curtis can do it too. When Curtis comes forward, he’s faster than people think and he has a very strong punch. With a few well-timed punches and a strong ground game, it could be a long night for ol’ Tom. Of course, I always root for Americans, especially American fighters, and regardless of who wins, Curtis is not an easy outing. Either way, I’ll be watching with interest.”

Jon Jones previously announced that his fight against Stipe Miocic will be the main event of UFC 309, which takes place on Nov. 9 at the famed Madison Square Garden Arena in New York City.
