Hardly anyone would think of Marlon Vera getting robbed in his title fight against Sean O’Malley, but that’s exactly what happened to the Ecuadorian fighter, but literally, not figuratively.
While the challenger for the UFC flyweight championship belt was in Miami fighting for the title, intruders broke into his home and took out money and valuables.
“Damn asshole breaking into my house – I’m gonna find you,” Vera wrote on social media, posting a photo of the broken door.
More context was provided by the fighter’s spouse.
“They broke into the house and took out material valuables that were acquired at the cost of great effort and hard work,” the woman wrote. “God is with us and with the man who did this. I really hope he needed the money for something really important.”
As a reminder, the title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera headlined UFC 299 in Miami went the full distance and ended with the reigning champion winning by unanimous decision by scores of 50-44 and 50-45 twice.
