Former UFC flyweight champion Peter Yan made a successful return to the octagon after a one-year hiatus and snapped a three-fight losing streak with a victory over Song Yadong at UFC 299 in Miami.
Traditionally giving his opponent the first round, in the second five minutes the Russian found his range and got to work, actively using jab and right uppercut. At the end of the round, Yang managed to move the Chinese and split him with elbows in the parterre.
In the third round the scenario was repeated – the Russian fighter interrupted his slowed opponent in the stand-up, then again moved him to the parterre, and closer to the final siren he tried to finish the fight with a choke, but did not have time to complete the hold.
In a post-fight interview, Peter Yan, who won a 29-28 three round unanimous decision, said he was ready to fight anyone the organization put against him, announcing the opening of the rematch season.
