Khabib criticized the UFC’s plans for Makhachev and Topuria

Hall of Fame member and former UFC lightweight titleholder Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn’t understand why the world’s strongest league organized a fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway, thus leaving two of its champions, Islam Makhachev and Elijah Topuria, without clear challengers.

“With all due respect to Max Holloway, I don’t know or understand why the UFC needs this fight,” the Russian told MMAJunkie. “Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway fight doesn’t make sense – that’s my opinion.”

“I think Holloway should have fought Elijah Topuria next, maybe in September, and Gaitjie should have fought Islam in May or June. Tsarukian and Oliveira fight in April – the winner of their fight should have fought the winner of the fight between Islam and Gaethje”

“Who will Topuria fight now? Movsar Yevloev is the best option, but I don’t know if Dana White will give him a title shot. Personally, I think he deserves it. Like I said, I don’t understand why they didn’t give Islam a fight with Justin, why they set up the Gaethje and Holloway fight. I don’t understand what the UFC is planning, but Islam is ready to fight anyone”

As a reminder, Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway and Arman Tsarukian vs. Charles Oliveira will be part of the UFC 300 anniversary event on April 13 in Las Vegas.
