Russian fighter Alexander Sarnavsky successfully resumed his career after a nearly two-year hiatus, defeating his compatriot Magomed Sulumov in a striking contest to win the AMC Fight Nights lightweight championship belt.
The title bout, which headlined AMC Fight Nights 123 in Moscow, ended with Tiger winning by rear-naked choke at the end of the third round. Sulumov, who entered the cage as the reigning titleholder, managed to shake the challenger in the opening round, but Sarnavskiy weathered the storm and returned to the fight, and closer to the break bell he took the initiative.
In the second round Sarnavskiy knocked his opponent down with an accurate series of punches and then gave him a real beating in the parterre, as a result of which the champion’s seconds had to carry him to the corner and bring him to his senses during the break.
In the third round Sulumov moved the fight to the parterre, however, Sarnavskiy took a dominant position and then took his opponent’s back and forced him to signal surrender by conducting a choke.
In a post-fight interview, Alexander Sarnavskiy stated that he wanted the AMC Fight Nights welterweight championship belt, challenging Dmitry Bikrev, who he defeated early in 2016 under the Fight Nights Global banner.
