Sean Strickland named the condition of the fight with Khamzat Chimaev

Reigning UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland, who is set to go on the road to defend his belt against Dricus Du Plessis this weekend, doesn’t think the division’s number nine, Hamzat Chimaev, has done enough to count on another title shot.

“It’s hard to say, but I’d rather fight someone else,” MMAnews quoted the American as saying. “Rankings matter, but who did Chimaev fight at middleweight? Who is he? He didn’t fight ranked middleweights and then face Usman, who got up off the couch on a week’s notice”

“Come on man, stop these love games with the UFC! Get back to actual sports and get back to the damn rankings! Again, I don’t care who it’s going to be – make a bunch more money and I’ll fight you!”

A few days earlier, undefeated Khamzat Chimaev revealed that the organization’s management had guaranteed him a fight with the winner of the title bout that will headline UFC 297 in Toronto on Jan. 20.
