Tom Aspinall assessed the performance of Magomed Ankalaev

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall praised the performance of Russian welterweight Magomed Ankalaev, who defeated Brazil’s Johnnie Walker early in a potential contender’s bout this past weekend.

“I’m a big fan of Magomed Ankalaev,” the Briton wrote on social media.

The fight between Magomed Ankalaev and Johnnie Walker, which headlined UFC Fight Night 234 in Las Vegas, ended midway through the second round with the Russian fighter winning by knockout.

In an interview after the event, Ankalaev said he is ready to go for a title fight against current division champion Alex Pereira in three months at UFC 300 in Las Vegas, and promised to fight the Brazilian only in the standup and not use his wrestling skills.

Tom Aspinall won the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt last November by knocking out Russian Sergey Pavlovich in 69 seconds.
