Former interim UFC heavyweight title challenger Sergey Pavlovic, who suffered an early defeat to Britain’s Tom Aspinall a month and a half ago, has revealed when he plans to return to the octagon.
“It makes no difference who I fight,” the Russian said in an interview Sport24. “Now we’ll recover, we’ll look at the training process. We’ll see how it goes. Of course, we need to get back in the race. I think closer to summer, most likely.”
Earlier, Pavlovic said that the main reason for his defeat was the short notice he was forced to take the fight with Aspinall in the absence of the opportunity to conduct a full training camp under his opponent.
On November 11 at UFC 295 in New York City, Sergey Pavlovic made a failed attempt to win the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt, losing to Tom Aspinall by knockout as early as the 69th second of the fight. Initially, the Russian was preparing for the event as a replacement for the title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, which was canceled two weeks before the tournament due to an injury to the reigning division champion.
With the loss, the Russian heavyweight broke his own streak of six wins by first-round knockout.
