Reigning UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, explained why the head of the world’s strongest league, Dana White, did not name Belal Muhammad as the next title challenger this past weekend.
The Brit made the statement after the American fighter publicly accused him of trying to avoid the fight.
“Leon’s opinion doesn’t matter and neither does his trainer’s,” Muhammad wrote on social media, commenting on Coach Edwards’ interview. “The only person whose opinion I care about is Dana White and he gave me his word. That’s all that matters. We’re next, that’s a fact, and the fear they show gives me even more confidence. You really should be afraid, Leon!”
“Belal, calm down son – you’re the least scary person in the organization,” the UFC champion replied. “I already told the UFC I don’t mind fighting you because it’s an easy job. And you need to find out why they hate you so much.”
Recall that Belal Muhammad, the division’s second-ranked fighter, officially insured the title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington, which headlined the UFC 296 event in Las Vegas on Dec. 16 and ended with the British fighter winning by unanimous decision.
