Alex Wolkanowski breaks down the Leon Edwards and Colby Covington fight

Reigning UFC featherweight champion, Aleksander Volkanovski, shared his opinion on the title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington, who are set to share the octagon this weekend.

“Leon Edwards is the favorite, and he should be after getting past a guy like Kamaru Usman twice, first by knocking him out and then winning a five-round decision,” the Australian said in another video posted on his Youtube channel. “Especially when you consider that Colby Covington is a wrestler and likes to press, which stylistically makes him similar to Usman. The difference between Usman and Covington is that Leon will have a harder time with Colby because the latter will be more focused on the kickdowns and will do it all five rounds without stopping”

“Leon did a wonderful job defending against translations in the Usman fight and I expect to see that in the Colby fight. Also, I expect to see a better version of Edwards in this fight – he’ll be better in the stand-up, better in his defense against theakedowns, and will use his power wisely. He’s confident, won’t panic, and that will save him a lot of energy. Colby Covington is a big threat, but I think Leon Edwards has learned so much from his previous fights with Usman that he will successfully apply it in the upcoming fight and win. Leon can win by knockout, he can definitely win by decision, and I don’t rule out that he can finish Colby with a sub-match – his ground game should not be underestimated. I’m leaning towards Leon being able to capitalize on Colby’s mistake and find his jaw.”

As a reminder, the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington will be the main event of UFC 296, which takes place on December 16 in Las Vegas.
