Leon Edwards: ‘Covington isn’t as good as everyone thinks – I’m going to destroy him’

Reigning UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards remains convinced that Colby Covington hasn’t earned his title shot and is going to clearly show why the American isn’t a fighter of his caliber.

“I don’t think anybody in this room knows why he’s fighting for the title,” the Brit said at the media press conference. “I don’t have any hatred for him. I don’t know him enough to hate him, but I don’t like the character he plays. He’s a clown and I treat him accordingly.”

“He’s not as good as everyone thinks he is. He’s a guy who’s lost by technical knockout, he’s been choked and transferred. There are a lot of ways to beat him. He’s an average fighter, and me and my team have a great plan ready to neutralize what he’s good at. My goal is to go out there and destroy him. And that’s what I’m going to do.”

As a reminder, the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington will be the main event of UFC 296, which takes place on December 16 in Las Vegas.
