Former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion George St-Pierre has responded to a question about whether or not he is part of the super bout that UFC chief Dana White revealed not too long ago.
“Absolutely not,” the legendary Canadian said at a press conference in Las Vegas. “I promised you, and I’ve always told myself, that I wouldn’t fight in the cage after 40 years. I’m not saying I won’t compete in any martial arts, but professional cage fighting for the sake of my legacy is absolutely out of the question.”
In particular, GSP has made it clear that he still wants to have a grappling match, which he turned down due to a shoulder injury.
“I’m very competitive and sometimes I forget I’m 42 years old. I don’t give myself enough rest and that leads to injuries – that’s how I damaged my shoulder ligaments. As soon as I recover, we will revisit this issue.”
Two weeks ago, the head of the UFC, Dana White, announced that he is working on organizing a superfight, noting that Conor McGregor is not a participant in this confrontation.
George St-Pierre, 42, has not competed since taking the UFC middleweight championship belt from Michael Bisping in November 2017, resuming his career after a four-year hiatus.
