UFC on ESPN 52: Arman Tsarukyan Knocks Out Benil Dariush

UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan of Russia secured his spot in the division’s top five with an early victory over fourth-ranked Benil Dariush.

The bout, which headlined UFC on ESPN 52 in Austin, ended as early as 64 seconds into the first round after the Russian clinched the American with a right side kick, landed a knee to the head, sent his opponent to the mat with another right kick and then finished him in the clinch.

In an interview after the fight, Arman Tsarukyan said that he would like to fight for the championship belt, which is currently held by his compatriot and former rival Islam Makhachev.

In the co-main event, Jalin Turner, who entered the octagon on short notice, stunned Bobby Green with a right jab as early as midway through the first round and then effectively knocked out his opponent with an accurate double, however, referee Kerry Hatley for whatever reason decided that Green could still return to the fight, allowing Turner to land about ten punches and knock his opponent unconscious.

In the third event of the tournament, former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueredo made a successful debut in the lightweight division with a 30-27 triple-overtime win over Rob Font, ranked eighth in the division’s rankings.

Other results included a disappointing return to welterweight for American Kelvin Gastelum, who lost a third-round kimura to fellow countryman Sean Brady.

Dustin Stoltzfus, Miesha Tate, Cody Brandeige, Drakkar Klose, Rodolfo Bellato and Jared Gooden all earned early victories.
