Conor McGregor’s reaction to Islam Makhachev’s achievement

Former UFC double champion, Conor McGregor, didn’t ignore the news that current UFC lightweight titleholder, Islam Makhachev, topped the organization’s rankings of the best fighters regardless of weight class, ousting Jon Jones from the top spot.

“Knocked out before a blackout and caught on steroids – P4P’s reigning number one. What a sport!”, the Irishman wrote on social media, posting a photo of the Russian lying knocked out.

In October 2015, Islam Makhachev suffered the only defeat of his career, losing by first-round technical knockout to Adriano Martins at UFC 292 in Houston. A year later, the Russian was disqualified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for meldonium; however, two months later, Makhachev was fully exonerated because he took the drug after heart surgery, even before the World Anti-Doping Agency WADA included the drug in the list of banned substances.

Since his loss to the Brazilian, Islam Makhachev has reeled off thirteen consecutive victories, including winning three title fights. After winning the vacant championship belt against Charles Oliveira, the Russian fighter defended his title twice this year, winning a unanimous decision over Alex Volkanovski and then knocking out the Australian in a rematch.

Conor McGregor, who two years ago broke his leg in the final match of the trilogy against Dustin Puryear, plans to resume his professional career next year with a fight against American Michael Chandler.
