Shavkat Rakhmonov was offered to insure a title fight in UFC

Before organizing a fight between Shavkat Rakhmonov and Stephen Thompson at UFC 296, league officials suggested that “Nomad” prepare for the numbered event as a backup for the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington that will headline the show.

“I was offered to insure the Leon Edwards and Colby Covington fight,” the Kazakhstani fighter said in an interview Igor Lazorin. “I refused because they didn’t want to pay properly, and I was more interested in fighting than waiting to see if someone gets injured or not. Belal Muhammad kind of agreed. Usually, the one who insures is the one who gets the title fight next. It’s not a hundred percent, but it’s a possibility

Rakhmonov said a title fight is part of his plans for next year.

“I want to fight for the title next year. If I get it, it will be good, so we are waiting. The main thing is to win fights.”

Recall that the tournament UFC 296 will be held on December 16 in Las Vegas and will be the last event of the organization in the current year.
