Former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic regrets not being able to complete his trilogy with Francis Ngannou, but hopes the Cameroonian knockout artist will put on a tremendous up-set in his upcoming boxing match with current WBC world champion Tyson Fury.
“I really wanted a rematch with Francis, but unfortunately he left for something bigger and better for him,” the NY Post quoted Miocic as saying. “It totally sucks for me because I wanted to complete the trilogy, but it wasn’t fate.”
“On paper Tyson Fury is one of the best boxers of all time, an amazing master of his craft, but Francis hits very hard. It’s a fight and anything can happen. I wish him all the best and I hope he shocks the world.”
In January 2018, Stipe Miocic successfully defended the UFC heavyweight championship belt by defeating Francis Ngannou by unanimous decision over five rounds, and three years later, the Cameroonian took a convincing rematch by knocking out the American in the second round.
Stipe Miocic is currently preparing for a title fight against Jon Jones headlining UFC 295 in New York on November 11, while a ten-round boxing match between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury takes place on October 28 in Riyadh.
