After two wins over Kamaru Usman, Leon Edwards shouldn’t expect the fight with Colby Covington to be an easy walk for him on the mere grounds that the American has been defeated twice in title fights against the Nigerian.
In another video published on his Youtube channel, former UFC champion in two weight categories, Daniel Cormier, who is a full-time commentator of the world’s strongest league and an analyst on ESPN, said.
“Leon Edwards’ improvements have been so drastic and significant that it’s hard to imagine a time now when he couldn’t fight, when he was transferred time after time and couldn’t get up,” Cormier said. “His jump between his first fight with Usman and his second fight was really impressive, but I’d like to say this about it – it’s one thing to fight a wrestler and another to fight a fighter like Colby Covington.”
“Colby Covington, whether you love him or hate him, you have to respect the fact that he’s an amazing competitor. He’s one of the hardest working guys I’ve ever met. If you know people who work harder, then you know absolutely incredible hard workers. Colby’s not the fastest, he’s not the strongest, and he’s not the biggest. But we’re talking about a guy who is a multiple national champion. We’re talking about a guy who has fought for the UFC title twice and is ready to do it a third time. We’re talking about a guy who was the interim UFC champion. I would advise Leon to take this fight as seriously as possible.”
As a reminder, the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington will be the main event of UFC 296, which takes place on December 16 in Las Vegas.
