Reigning WBC heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury shared his opinion on the boxing title match between Oleksandr Usik and Daniel Dubois, in the fifth round of which the Ukrainian was on the canvas for several minutes after missing a kick to the body, but avoided a knockout defeat, convincing the referee that his opponent hit below the belt.
“We all know it wasn’t a low blow,” the Brit said in an interview with Dave Sahni. “Usik was defeated in a fair fight. He lost by knockout, that’s obvious. That punch put him down. I feel very sorry for Daniel because he should be champion now.”
The fight, which took place three weeks ago, ended with Oleksandr Usik winning by knockout in the ninth round, and Daniel Dubois’ team announced that they will appeal and challenge the result of the match, at stake in which the Ukrainian’s WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles were at stake.
Earlier “Gypsy King”, who is currently preparing for a boxing match with former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, said that he is not interested in a unification fight with Usik because the Ukrainian boxer does not speak English well and a fight with him cannot be sold well.
According to Fury, after meeting with the Cameroonian, he will try to test the boxing skills of current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who could end his mixed martial arts career by the end of the year.
Recall that the ten-round boxing match between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou will take place on October 28 in Riyadh, however, this time the British champion’s belt will not be on the line.
