Former UFC flyweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, and the division’s number two, Merab Dvalishvili, have responded to criticism from UFC president, Dana White, for whom their friendship is a major irritant.
In particular, the day before, White said that Dvalishvili’s unwillingness to cross Sterling’s path contradicts the organization’s main sporting principle of determining the best fighter, and also hinted that perhaps the Georgian representative should continue his career elsewhere.
“I don’t understand what the problem is. There is no question who should fight for the title now – it’s Aljo or me,” Dvalishvili wrote on social network Dvalishvili.
“It’s all getting so complicated. Either way, I’m with you bro,” Sterling backed up his comrade.
Two weeks earlier, Aljamain Sterling lost his UFC flyweight championship belt to Sean O’Malley by second-round technical knockout. The new UFC champion said after the fight that he wants to make his first title defense in December against sixth-ranked Marlon Vera, who suffered the only loss of his career three years ago.
