Former UFC flyweight titleholder Peter Yan did not let up on the victory of his former rival Sean O’Malley, who knocked out Aljamain Sterling in the second round at UFC 292 in Boston to become the division’s new champion.
“Our rematch must take place sooner or later,” the Russian wrote on social media.
Sean O’Malley earned a title fight thanks to a controversial win over Peter Yan, whom he beat by split decision last October and moved up ten spots in the UFC lightweight rankings.
The Russian faced Aljamain Sterling twice, losing the championship belt in the first fight due to a disqualification due to an illegal knee to the head, and in the rematch losing to the American by split decision after five rounds.
Currently ranked fifth in the division, Peter Yan is riding a three-fight losing streak and plans to return to the octagon later this year.
