Whittaker rated Strickland’s chances in his fight with Adesanya

Despite the fact that Sean Strickland will enter his title fight with Israel Adesanya a multiple underdog, former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker, believes that the American has a chance in this fight.

“I’m curious to see how Adesanya will adapt to Shawn’s style because he’s very unorthodox,” the Australian told Fox Sports Australia. “He has a very straight stance. He’s susceptible to leg kicks, but he likes press fights. I think Shawn, who we saw in the previous fight, gave his best performance. That was a very dangerous Strickland. I’m very interested to see if Strickland can do something that can give trouble to a fighter like Izzy, who prefers to counterattack”

“I think every decent middleweight has a puncher’s chance. Every one of us hits like a ton of bricks. And as you saw in my last fight, perseverance and determination on the right night can do great things. So given that Sean has nothing to lose, his unorthodox style, straight stand-up, tall stature, love for pressured fights, and his recent performance, I wouldn’t write him off beforehand”

As a reminder, the middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland will be the main event of UFC 293, which takes place on September 9 in Sydney.
