Former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, will make his boxing debut on October 28 in the capital of Saudi Arabia, while the Cameroonian’s opponent will be British heavyweight Tyson Fury, who holds the WBC world boxing title.
The organization of the fight was reported by ESPN reporter Mike Coppinger.
“Tyson Fury, lineal world boxing champion, and Francis Ngannou, former UFC heavyweight champion, will fight on October 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as informed sources told ESPN,” the journalist wrote on the social network. WBC President Mauricio Suleiman did not respond to a text message asking if Fury’s heavyweight title would be on the line. The rules and the number of rounds are still unknown.”
“The fight has just been officially announced,” Coppinger added a few minutes later. “According to the release, the bout ‘will take place in a regular boxing ring under standard boxing rules with three ringside judges using a ten-point system’. The release does not mention Fury’s WBC title or number of rounds. It is also unclear whether the result of the fight will be included in the official boxing record.
The news came three days after Ariel Helwani, a well-known sportswriter, reported on the organization of the duel between the Predator and the Gypsy King.
At the beginning of this year, Francis Ngannou officially left the strongest league in the world, vacating the UFC heavyweight championship belt, after which he signed a contract with the PFL, under whose banner he plans to debut next year.
Tyson Fury last entered the ring in December last year, knocking out Derek Chisora in the tenth round.
