Former UFC middleweight champion, Alex Pereira, who is gearing up for his light heavyweight debut, weighs like a true heavyweight while still maintaining near-minimum body fat.
This was announced by a friend and mentor of the Brazilian, Glover Teixeira.
“I’m glad he moved up to light heavyweight because I don’t want to see him race that much,” the former UFC champion told reporters in Las Vegas. “You have no idea how much this guy drove to meet the middleweight. Right now he weighs 230 pounds (104.3 kg), and he is still thin – he has no more than eight percent body fat. It was crazy for him to go to middleweight.”
According to the Brazilian, he believes that in the event of a victory over Jan Blachowicz, his ward will be able to take revenge on Jamal Hill, who defeated Teixeira in a duel for the vacant title.
“Of course, Jamal’s style suits Alex perfectly. Jamal is a great fighter and Ian is a great fighter – we don’t look behind Jan, but styles make fights. I’m more of a grappler and Ian is a great drummer. He beat Israel Adesanya and looked good on the stand before he started throwing takedowns. Yang is dangerous and hits really hard.”
“But if everything goes according to plan and Alex can beat Ian, I’m sure Jamal will be a terrific opponent for Alex – it will be great to take revenge on him, even though he is a great guy”
Recall that the light heavyweight fight between Alex Pereira and Jan Blachowicz will take place on July 29 at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City.
