Alex Volkanovski asks to leave him Ilia Topuria

Reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski wants to be the one to take a zero loss against division number five Ilia Topuria.

“I hear a lot of people talking about Elijah having to fight someone else, but my answer is a resounding ‘no’,” the Australian told Daniel Cormier. “Do not do that. Just give this guy to me. Give me a candidate. I won’t say too much – he’s a great fighter and I need new opponents.”

“Basically, I cleared the division, but now everyone is talking about this guy, everyone is in awe of him. Now I have to worry about the duel with Yair. He’s my number one priority and I think he’s a bigger threat than Elijah, but hold this guy for me because I want to stay active.”

Undefeated Ilia Topuria scored his sixth win under the UFC banner over the weekend, defeating Josh Emmett by unanimous decision to move up to the organization’s fifth featherweight rankings, while Alexander Volkanovski will attempt to unify the titles on July 8 against interim belt holder Yair Rodriguez.
