Brazilian coach Diego Lima, who heads the staff of Charles Oliveira, is betting that his ward will knock out Islam Makhachev in a rematch and regain the UFC lightweight championship belt.
“It will be a knockout,” the specialist said in an interview with MMAFighting. “It’s funny how people say, ‘But Charles has the most submission wins in UFC history,’ but the fight starts on the feet and we have a lot of punching planned – we keep hitting even when the fight goes to the ground. Chandler was on the bottom, and Charles won by technical knockout, although he could have finished it with a submission. Charles is very strong and he has a very good attack – that’s why I believe in knockout. But if they get down, he can end the fight with a submission.”
Former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, became a top contender ten days ago against Islam Makhachev, defeating Benil Dariush via TKO in the first round in a potential challenger bout. With the win, the Brazilian put his career back on track after losing to the Russian, who finished him last October with a hand triangle choke in the second round.
According to the UFC plan, Islam Makhachev should defend his championship belt on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
