Islam Makhachev named the ideal opponent for the next fight

The current UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, announced which of the potential rivals he would like to share the octagon with in his next fight.

“Perhaps Poirier,” Makhachev said. “He is a big name in the UFC – he will be interesting. As Dariush lost, everything turned upside down. His skills were highly appreciated and if he had beaten Oliveira I think we would have had a good fight. I was rooting for Dariush, I thought it would be interesting for my career”

Former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier will fight his next fight on July 29 at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City against Justin Gaethje, with the vacant BMF title up for grabs by the Americans. The winner of this fight will be one of the main candidates for a fight with the Russian, who plans to defend his title on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.

Also up for a fight with Makhachev are former division champion Charles Oliveira and current UFC featherweight title holder Alexander Volkanovski, who will face Yair Rodriguez on July 8.
