UFC President Dana White answered a question about whether a fight could take place between Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev, who offered to organize the former UFC welterweight champion.
According to the head of the organization, the Nigerian wants to fight the Chechen fighter in the intermediate weight category, which is absolutely out of the question.
“What I don’t like about this fight is that Usman challenged him to a catchweight fight – I don’t do catchweight fights, I don’t like catchweights,” the head of MMA Fighting was quoted as saying. “Intermediate weights mean nothing. They mean absolutely nothing.”
“If Usman wants to move up to middleweight and fight Chimaev, we can talk about it. But trying to fight him at catchweight is not something I’m interested in.”
A few days earlier, Kamaru Usman, who occupies the first line in the UFC welterweight ranking, announced that he wants to fight Khamzat Chimaev, who is located in the third position in the division, and also expressed the hope that this fight will become a challenger. At the same time, the Nigerian Nightmare, which had no problems with the weight race before, did not mention the intermediate weight category, and the Borz responded by saying that they were not averse to dismissing a potential rival.
Recall that Khamzat Chimaev plans to fight his next fight in the middle weight category against former UFC title contender Paulo Costa. According to rumors, the fight could take place on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
