Former UFC champion in two weight categories, Daniel Cormier, commented on the news that his former rival, Jon Jones, who won the UFC heavyweight championship belt, became the leader of the P4P UFC rating, displacing Alexander Volkanovski from the first line of the list of the organization’s best fighters.
“I don’t think Jones should be number one pound-for-pound,” Cormier said in a recent edition of his ESPN analytics program. “I believe that Alexander Volkanovski should still be in the first place. Jon Jones shouldn’t be the best fighter in the world no matter the weight class.”
This past weekend at UFC 285 in Las Vegas, Jon Jones successfully resumed his career after a three-year hiatus and won the vacant heavyweight title by finishing with a two-minute guillotine choke on division number one Cyril Gan.
Two days after the triumph, the American climbed nine lines in the UFC P4P ranking, displacing all members of the top ten by one position, including Alex Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev, who were in second and third place, respectively.
