Absolute lightweight champion American Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) said that his fight with Ukrainian veteran Vasyl Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) will be announced soon and will take place on May 20. The holder of all belts explained the reason for the delay in the official announcement. He did this while in Saudi Arabia.
“It remains to close the last question – the place of the battle, –
claims champion. – Where will it take place – here or in Las Vegas. We will soon find out the answer to this question. But I would like to spend it here. This is a huge opportunity, especially for me, to fight in front of a huge number of Muslims. I’ve always dreamed about it.”
The champion was asked if Lomachenko is the most dangerous opponent in his career. Haney’s answer: “Only the ring will answer this question. On paper, that’s exactly what it is. On paper, fighting him is a huge rise in opposition levels. But we will see how it will actually be. Obviously, I want to make it look like a no-brainer. After all, no one likes to miss a beat. This, believe me, is not pleasant. So I’m preparing for the best version of Lomachenko. And then we’ll see…”
The other day, the Ukrainian commented on the upcoming fight: “This is my second chance.” The former hegemon of the division claims that he “never reached the goal on the first try.”
