Carlos Mota will not be back for some time.

On Tuesday, the U.S.Anti-Doping Agency announced that the Brazilian flyweight accepted a two-year suspension that will keep him out of action until Oct. 29, 2024. MMA Fighting previously reported Mota’s suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission earlier this month.

Mota was twice positive for the banned drug meldonium. The first time was in a competition test Oct. 2022, to determine if he will be making his UFC debut. A second time, in an out-ofcompetition testing Nov. 2022.. Mota wasn’t notified about his positive first test when his second was taken. The two tests were combined to create a single violation. USADA stated in a press release ..

Meldonium was most famously used by Maria Sharipova, a tennis player who tested positive at the 2016 Australian Open. The compound improves endurance and recovery .. USADA states that Meldonium “is a non-Specified Substance within the category Hormones and Metabolic Modulators” and has been banned at all time under its Anti-Doping Policy.

Mota (8-2) has been a professional since 2016, amassing an 8-2 record in that time. A one-time LFA flyweight title challenger, Mota made his UFC debut against Cody Durden at UFC Vegas 63, losing via unanimous decision. He was released by the promotion earlier this month.
