The leader of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, who is a big fan of boxing and mixed martial arts, did not disregard the victory of his compatriot Islam Makhachev, who successfully defended the UFC lightweight championship belt in a confrontation with Australian Alexander Volkanovski at the UFC 284 tournament in Perth.
“Congratulations on the confident victory of one of the best mixed martial arts fighters Islam Makhachev,” the head of Chechnya wrote on a social network. “At the last UFC 284 tournament in the main fight of the evening, the Russian fighter met with the Australian Alexander Volkanovski. After five spectacular rounds, by unanimous decision of the judges, Islam won an unconditional victory, thereby defending the lightweight championship belt for the first time in his career.
“I am personally familiar with Islam. With firm confidence I can say that this is a very well-mannered person with a high moral orientation. If for someone today’s sport is a place where you can insult anything and anyone, then for Islam this is a place where he can demonstrate his best qualities. He is a very reserved and noble person with whom it is very interesting to communicate. This is what a real athlete should be.
“I have a warm, brotherly relationship with all the fighters, so I sincerely rejoice at their every success and achievement. Of course, it was a spectacular and exciting duel, the victory in which was fully deserved. Once again, I congratulate all our compatriots and Islam, including on a well-deserved victory! I sincerely wish him health, prosperity and good luck! I am sure he will continue to delight us with his success in sports. Brother, you are the best!”
The title superfight in lightweight between Makhachev and Volkanovski went the whole distance and ended with the victory of the Russian fighter by unanimous decision, and the Australian after the fight said that he did not agree with his defeat, demanding an immediate revenge.
