Promoter Eddie HearnMatchroom Boxing) is interested in organizing a fight between former unified world champion British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) and former UFC belt holder Cameroonian Francis Ngannou (17-3 in MMA).
Hearn
claims, that he even had preliminary negotiations with Ngannou: “I think this dude is just an outstanding personality. I know I always talk too much. Perhaps now it is not worth talking about it at all … But I have already talked with Ngannou. I called him and asked in plain text: “Dude, just tell me who I should negotiate with.” And he replied: “With me.” And I like it.”
Hearn says openly: “I want to be part of his career. And the fight with Joshua is probably one of the greatest that can be staged. This is one of the greatest events in the world of sports. I think Ngannou will have many opportunities to prove himself in boxing. And I guess it all depends on which one he chooses, who he trusts. I told him openly that everything is different in boxing – sometimes in the pursuit of a big fight you can lose a lot of time and be left with nothing.
Interestingly, at the same time, Hearn does not exclude the possibility that Ngannou can completely upset Joshua: “What if he brings his fist to the target? Will this be the biggest upset in boxing history? Or will Joshua beat him up? Or will we still see Ngannou in a knockout? To be honest, I haven’t talked to Anthony about it yet. After all, now all his thoughts are about becoming a world champion again, a three-time world champion. And we understand it. But we also understand that this fight is an opportunity to earn fabulously huge money. We understand that this is an opportunity to organize a fight that will simply drive all fans of martial arts crazy.”
Ngannou has previously given the go-ahead for a fight with WBC champion Tyson Fury, but Hearn is confident that “Joshua would have been cooler. After all, they will arrange a brighter batch. ”
Despite the fact that Ngannou began negotiations with Fury, Tyson’s fight with Usyk is not in danger. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya has two hands for this fight.
