Derrick James, recognized as the best coach in 2022 by almost all experts and fans, will be an excellent choice for British ex-world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) and will help him become better by revealing trump cards and eliminating shortcomings.
This opinion was expressed by the legendary boxer, and now coach Roy Jones Jr.
It is noteworthy that Jones himself expected to work with Joshua as a mentor.
“Derrick James is a great coach, he does great things with Errol Spence and achieves more than people would expect from him,” Jones says, “so I think James will be a great coach (for Joshua). That’s why I told him (Joshua) that if they have good chemistry, he should stick with it.”
“I think James is the right choice to work with Joshua, I think he can help him with his confidence and manner,” continues Roy. “The way Spence applies pressure in the ring will really help Joshua. He needs to learn how to put pressure on an opponent because he is most dangerous when he puts pressure on him. That’s why I think it would be the right choice. If I had known from the beginning that he was considering James, I would have told him directly that this would be a good choice.”
