If Kamaru Usman can complete his trilogy with Leon Edwards in March, UFC welterweight No. 4 Belal Muhammad is poised to take on Khamzat Chimaev, whom he considers one of the strongest fighters in the division.
“I would definitely like to fight Leon Edwards, but if you look at it in terms of which fight will get more attention, I would choose Hamzat,” Muhammad said in an interview with Michael Bisping. “Khamzat, this is a bigger fight than Leon. Of course, my goal is to become a champion, so I want to fight Edwards, but to be honest, I think he is an easier fight than Khamzat.”
“Give me Khamzat. Everyone thinks that this guy is going to be the best in the world, that he will run over everyone and become a double champion, but I see ways to beat him and I know that I can do it. I’m ready to fight the guy everyone thinks is the best. Nobody thinks Leon is the best and everyone thinks he should fight Usman again, who dominated the previous fight and will probably deal with him in a rematch. Everyone thinks Khamzat is invincible, but I really believe that I can beat him.”
At the same time, Khamzat Chimaev continues to insist that he is ready to fight against any opponent.
“With anyone, anytime,” the Chechen fighter wrote on the social network.
The Borz previously stated that they would like to return to the octagon on March 4 at UFC 285 in Las Vegas, but the organization’s matchmakers have not yet been able to find an opponent for him.
As for the title rematch between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, he should head the UFC 286 tournament in London on March 18, however, rumors about the injury of the former UFC champion make it doubt that this scenario will certainly come true.
