If the UFC is having trouble arranging a title rematch between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, welterweight division number four Belal Muhammad is poised to be the one to challenge the champion at UFC 286 in London.
Muhammad considers the organization of a Candidates’ duel with Khamzat Chimaev to be the second acceptable option.
“The only thing that makes the most sense right now is my fight against Leon for the title,” Muhammad told The Schmo. “Alternatively, you can arrange for me to fight Chimaev on the same card, and I will fight him in London, even if he fails the weigh-in like last time. Let it be a contender fight.”
“I will be in London anyway. Wherever the title is, I want to be there. I want to be on this card. If something goes wrong, I can come on as a substitute, or if I meet Leon on the street, we can work it out right there.”
UFC 286 will take place on March 18 at the O2 Arena in London and Kamaru Usman is rumored to be unable to compete due to a hand injury, meaning Leon Edwards will have to defend his title against another opponent.
