The current UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, on whose social networks the clown is still the most popular emoji, explained why he considers it necessary to respond to fans’ insults.
“I don’t care what people say, but I stand up for my right to freely tell them that they are wrong,” the American said in an interview with MMA Fighting. “They can say, I can answer – consider that I am having so much fun, although I could not pay attention and just be silent”
“People still look askance at me because of the first fight with Petr Yan, and they can’t accept the fact that in the rematch I dominated the guy who, in their opinion, should have killed me. They keep saying I just got lucky with the title run.”
“Perhaps I should stop answering them and go into the shadows, but then we will all lose the fun. I love these picks, and if it doesn’t make me nervous and lose sleep at night, then there’s no harm in it. Unless some people are very angry with my answers, and they continue to shower insults and curses on me.
“I took this position not by chance. I had no privileges from Dan White and fought all the toughest guys. In the end, people will have to put up with it, whether they like it or not, and I will continue to defend myself. I’m happy that I have the belt, and it doesn’t matter how many people support me and how many people hate me – I will give a hard day at the office to anyone who tries to wrest the title from my hands.
Aljamain Sterling previously confirmed that former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo will be his next opponent, however, the organization has not yet announced this matchup.
